So yesterday the Conservative government unveiled their plan to borrow $85 billion from our future to... subsidize tax cuts. Tax cuts. Mostly, anyway. A few interesting points but overall, a shortsighted continuation down the path to dismantling government's ability to make any difference in the public forum.
Dear Government:
I am really, really broke. I have high consumer debt. And yet, I don't want my money back from you. I want health care, and good education, and more than anything, a strong infrastructure to support a more sustainable (environmental and economic) future. Why won't you keep my money? Why do you insist on blind trust in 'the market', underestimating the power of systems?
Take my money. Support rail, build affordable energy efficient housing, make some bike paths. PLEASE keep my money.
xoxo Charlene
