My brain feels very full and expandy lately. I've had three sessions thus far of the Envision Halifax leadership course, which has me reexamining my filters in that first bar of the U process, and learning appreciative inquiry and looking hard at questions of civic engagement; and I'm working on this church committee assessing what we do about our building; and doing freelance work, reading deepak chopra, trying to get in some meditation, trying to stay in touch somehow with some of the friends I used to see once in a while... and once again not getting to the gym, but instead letting my body grow softer and weaker. Blech.
All the while I feel like I'm creeping nearer to the edge of whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing but haven't got there yet. A magazine? A job with gov't? Stay put and deal with my restless nature?
I had a thought the other day around music sampling, that it isn't a bad thing. This borrowing of motifs and pieces for re-interpretation, new examination, and new perspective has been happening in art for ages. As a designer I've seen a design idea and thought, oh, but what if you tried it this way, or in this application? I can project to being a musician hearing a line, a hook, a melody, or a bar of music and thinking... what about faster? slower? with a reggae beat? what if you repeated it? Added trumpets? more cowbell?
