So, as I sat in Mickey D's feeling mildly superior with my chicken sandwich and salad, and reading the paper, I came across an article about 'biodegradable' plastics gumming up the works in our waste system. I have heard this before... and in fact, am often the one delivering this sad news to the public, who really want a plastic alternative to paper bags to be ok.
So, no plastics, even so-called biodegradable ones, in the green bins, kids, ok? The plastics all decay under different conditions and at different rates. We use aerobic digestion composting, TO uses anaerobic, that's why they can take plastic and diapers. Just line your bin with newspaper or cracker boxes or whatever. You know you have that lying around. You don't have to buy it. Rinse out the green bin (inside one) daily and it won't smell.
And furthermore, when you're at McDonalds, or any restaurant where you dispose of your own trash, please PLEASE just take a minute to understand the waste system and TRY sorting it right. You know, there's usually little pictures to guide you, since even though you were texting a minute ago, when you get to the trashcan you become illiterate. That wax lined pop cup with plastic straw and lid doesn't go in the organics. Dumbass.
